THE CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT
LIFE BROKERAGE AGENCIES (“CAILBA”)
CODE OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
THE SIX PRINCIPLES
1. INTEGRITY
Principle: The life insurance industry is built on a foundation of trust. Performing with integrity must not be
compromised. This applies to operating our businesses in a manner that meets or exceeds all regulatory
requirements; engaging only in fair, ethical and lawful business practices. Contributing to fair treatment of
consumers through our activities and promoting best practices within our businesses, with advisors and within
our industry.
2. PROFESSIONALISM
Principle: Demonstrate our professionalism by developing our competence and skills through increased
knowledge and education; supporting productive and positive relationships with all stakeholders; and to
uphold the traditions and values of the insurance industry. Strict compliance with laws and regulations and
adherence to the contracts held with insurers.
3. INDEPENDENCE
Principle: Grow and foster best practices in the independent distribution channel – advisors and MGAs – and
protect the freedom of choice of financial products and services for advisors to meet the needs of consumers.
